show me:

A true Scottish Grand National

3 minute read

As the ground reading moved from “soft” to “heavy” the race was bound to prove interesting.

Jockey: Sean Houlihan. Picture: Pat Healy Photography

And it did, with only six of the runners finishing and 10 pulled up, and 5 withdrawn prior to the race because of "unsuitable ground" so it was a survival of the fittest type of race.  Honours went to Kap Vert 20/1 trained by Hobbs & White and ridden by Houlihan who got the nod ahead of Git Maker 10/2 and a brave favourite Km Roque third.

All six horses who finished the Scottish Grand National should have got medals/.

Earlier in the Hurdle Dedicated Hero 12/1 defeated Captain Hugo with Ooh Betty 10/1 third.  Original favourite Tellherthename was scratched.

Down south at Newbury the Fred Darling went to a nice filly Sukanya 16/1 trained by Jack Channon and ridden by David Probert she put in a great finish to get there ahead of Touleen with Domina Ignis third.

The Greenham saw a great finish from Alparsian 9/1 to overcome the returning Zavateri and favourite Albert Einstein.  This was the start of a double for Karl Burke and Cliff Lee as they teamed up with Convergent in the John Porter with our tip Al Aasy second and Tenability third of the six runners.
