STATS FOR SURE
Ipswich is a happy hunting ground for Angela Jones with a winning striike-rate of 16.6% and place rate of 38% in her 513 rides at the track so far. Today she is aboard The Gambling Greek in Race 3 and Braveheart in Race 7.
RACE 1
AEROPOWER (7) debuted a month ago, beaten 2.25 lengths over 800m at this track. Will improve, and on what we've seen, he will take plenty of beating. THRILL SEEKER (8) was beaten 4L at long odds in the same contest. He's led them up narrowly beaten over 860m at Gatton prior, and has the winkers on for the first time. Maps well and following a brief freshen, she can go a lot better. A long tail. GYPSY JOY (5) and JADA ROSE (6) both debut, and the betting will provide a guide to their chances. CUGAT QUEEN (11) resumes and has the rail. Her early form would have her around the mark, but plenty of trust is required.
SUGGESTED PLAY: Aeropower to win.
RACE 2
SICILIAN WARRIOR (6) improved again, beaten a whisker over this trip at Beaudesert and then folded right up at Toowoomba, beaten a mile with no apparent anomalies found post race. If one forgives that run, he's the one to beat in this lineup. EVADE THE GAME (7) placed here over this trip and then didn't finish it off over 1800m at the Sunshine Coast on a slow surface. Better placed here and should be right in it. BENZINO (1) is third up and has been racing in stronger in town. Maps well and the step-up to a 1690m suits. Has been freshened and gets his chance in this grade. ALKEBULAN (10) led them up and found a place over 1540m on the Gold Coast poly and keeps the 3kg claim. Draws an inside barrier today, and the blinkers go on again. She can get into the money in a weak race.
SUGGESTED PLAY: Sicilian Warrior is worth another chance.
RACE 3
A good race. CONCESSION (3) has been racing in town before an impressive 4 lengths win in a 75 over 1000m at Gold Coast last time. Carries 2kg more, but he will race forward and is a decent chance to repeat. CABALETTO (7) is third up off placed efforts over 1000m at Eagle Farm. Last raced 22 days ago and has been kept up to the mark with a Doomben trial placing. The speedy mare tumbles in weight this grade with a 2kg claim atop, and that brings her right into it. LOST HIS BEANS (1) peaks and is going well enough to consider. Has a low gate, and Maloney stays aboard. Will get every chance. SPEEDY ONE (6) resumes for the premier stable and has won 2/3 fresh. Maps well with Thompson booked, and he's had a trial hit out at Doomben. The betting will be key with him. THE GAMBLING GREEK (4) runs along and is a handy galloper who has a key jockey switch to Jones.
SUGGESTED PLAY: Sticking with Concession.
RACE 4
DOWN UNDER STUNNAH (7) is coming off a 2.25 length defeat over 2030m at Doomben. Missed a whisker here, the one before over the same distance, and finally draws an inside barrier. Sure to prove tough to beat. POWER ACE (1) is a leader who improved beaten 2L over 1650m at Beaudesert, before recording an easy win over 2000m on the Gold Coast poly. Rates well enough with the 3kg claim, but has to skip across from the outside gate. In the premier stable and has winning claims regardless. SACRED BULL (6) gives away starts, but had been threatening a win this distance range before a plain run last time. Thompson is a key jockey switch for the 2kg apprentice, and he will be finishing hard. HURRICANE ROSIE (8) is also a better hope than the form line suggests. Comes off stronger races and best to reckon her chances on the nose defeat over 2230m three starts ago at Grafton. Likes to position forward and can go a lot better.
SUGGESTED PLAY: Down Under Stunnah to win.
RACE 5
NINJITZOU (3) is busting to win and goes wet and dry. Stepped up to this trip at the Sunshine Coast last time, Beaten 2L. Has a handy 2kg claim and has the gate speed to lead or box-seat. Comes back a level and gets his chance. SAN JOSE BOY (1) registered a strong win over 1700m at this track two runs ago and then ran on strongly again, beaten 1L this trip at the Sunshine Coast. Gets in well with the 2kg claim and may be able to position handier today. CANTARITO (5) gave away a big start this track/trip three weeks ago but had missed a nose in a Sunshine Coast 70 over 1800m prior. That stacks up, and he finally draws an inside barrier. Thompson is reunited. NOIRE EMPEROR (2) resumed in solid order at Doomben and drew wide and settled last in a 12-horse field at Eagle Farm, beaten 3.2L. He has more to give, and the step up to 1690m suits. Will be doing his best work late.
SUGGESTED PLAY: Ninjitzou appeals most.
RACE 6
Competitive. SIR MAURICE (4) gives away starts but is busting to win and the longer sprint suits. Found a couple better over 1200m at Sunshine Coast last time, and his best figures measure up. Thompson sticks aboard, and that's a push for his chances. SILENT FOX (3) finished second two runs back at Kilcoy, then improved last time out to score by 0.8 lengths over 1200m at Sunshine Coast. Had switched stables on a 19-day return and is a much-improved galloper. FARNESINA (11) was comfortably accounted for over 1200m at Eagle Farm, but prior led and won his Maiden comfortably at the Sunshine Coast, first up. Will present fitter back in grade, and maps for a soft run. BLUDIK (2) spikes his numbers, winning a 58 here over this distance, digging deep. The inside gate may not be ideal, but he's got some chance. ENFICA LASS (9) resumes for a new stable drawn low. She's won fresh, and her best form stacks up.
SUGGESTED PLAY: Leaning to Sir Maurice.
RACE 7
BRAVEHEART (2) resumed heavily bet at Doomben and worked home okay after an awkward start. The money came again there following, and he was beaten just 0.5L after positioning handy. Maps well today, and Jones is a key jockey engagement, replacing the apprentice. In the premier metro stable and back to provincial level is well-placed to win. IVANTHEINVINCIBLE (6) is also in good hands. He was a big trial winner and then led and demolished the Grafton Maidens by 5.6L on debut. He was backed off the map and will jump and run from the inside barrier. Promising and is sure to give a big sight. BETTER SWEET (13) missed the frame at Eagle Farm last time, but came hard to just miss there prior. Will find this easier and may be able to sit a bit closer today. CARNEGIE HILL (3) resumes for the Freedman yard and is proven fresh. He's trialled well and maps for the run of the race. Has shown enough to keep onside.
SUGGESTED PLAY: Braveheart to win.
