Mornington Cup day with plenty of value throughout.
We head down the peninsula for feature racing in Victoria on Saturday with Mornington playing host.
The Mornington Cup headlines the card with the Sires, Guineas and Hareeba providing some solid depth and it is in the feature where one of our best value plays rears its head.
Last year's winner Bankers Choice is going as well as ever, getting home very well off a slow tempo first up in the Peter Young before working home well in the Easter Cup last time out, just beaten for a turn of foot at 2000m.
The Timeform ratings of 116 & 115 this time in are his two career peaks having run 114 to win this race last year when ridden on speed, which I think will be the case again here from a wide gate.
Ambassadorial is flying but had every favour in the Easter Cup and while 2400m looks okay, it's still an unknown whereas Bankers Choice will relish it.
He's around the $17 mark across markets and that undersells his chances significantly in my opinion – I've marked him half that price and will be having a strong wager.
In the Mornington Guineas, race favourite Satirically picks himself to some degree having run slick time at Sandown over the mile when last seen.
He put up a good rating there and while drawn very wide here, there's a long run into the turn from the 1600m start and there doesn't look much pressure. Expect he finds the top and proves very hard to catch again.
The other bet I'm keen to have is Arlington Row in Race 4. She's won two on the bounce and ran good overall time at Cranbourne when last seen, kicking up to lead from barrier one with Meech aboard.
That's the exact scenario we see again here and fancy she's the horse on the up against some exposed types that have hit their mark.
The Mornington Mail
Bet of the day: Race 4 #8 Arlington Row at $6.50
Also backing: Race 7 #2 Satirically at $3.50
Each-way play: Race 8 #1 Bankers Choice at $17/5
