The Karrakatta Plate run at Ascot on Saturday has had some good winners of late.
Bustling was aimed at The Everest but didn't make it so the 2026 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) at Ascot on Saturday has plenty to live up to.
2026 KARRAKATTA PLATE - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND
The Karrakatta Plate is a Group 2 race for two year olds conducted by Perth Racing (formerly the West Australian Turf Club) at Ascot.
The Karrakatta Plate was first run in 1902 and was won by San Toy.
The Karrakatta Plate is run over 1200m under Set Weights conditions.
It was a G1 but was downgraded to G2 from 1999 onwards.
It was run over five furlongs until 1980 when it was upped in journey to the current distance. The race has also changed it dates pre and post New Year previously.
In 2026 the Karrakatta Plate was worth $500,000.
Amelia's Jewel won the 2023 Karrakatta Plate with ease and would go on to a great Spring winning the Belgravia, WA Guineas and G1 Northerly Stakes.
Bustling was later purchased and then slotted into the Everest after winning the two feature 2yo races in Perth but after one run in Sydney he didn't make the race.
Notable winners of the Karrakatta Plate include Bustling (2024), Amelia's Jewel (2022), Whispering Brook (2016), Redwoldt (2004), Bomber Bill (1998), Alabama Whirly (1996), Umah (1996), Jacks Or Better (1994), Umatilla (1990), Highpak (1989), Burgess Queen (1976) and La Trice (1967).
The 2025 Karrakatta Plate was won by Talkanco from Just Too Fly and Snitzalatte.
