Travis Head has delivered a long-awaited breakthrough innings in the IPL, powering Sunrisers Hyderabad to a successful chase of 243 with a rapid 76 from 30 balls.

Head had struggled for consistency across his first eight innings of the season, failing to pass 50, but responded with an aggressive display that featured eight sixes and four fours. He shared a 129-run opening stand with Abhishek Sharma, who contributed 45, setting the platform for the chase.

Mumbai Indians had earlier posted 5-243, driven by Ryan Rickelton's unbeaten 123. The total appeared imposing, but Sunrisers maintained momentum throughout the reply to secure victory with six wickets in hand and eight balls remaining.

Head's innings was not without fortune. He was dropped three times early in his knock and also edged a delivery behind without an appeal being made, as crowd noise masked the contact. Despite those moments, he capitalised fully to anchor the chase.

Captain Pat Cummins, who returned figures of 0-39, said the pitch conditions made the target achievable and backed the batting group's approach. He noted the variety and aggression within the line-up as key factors in the successful pursuit.

The result lifts Sunrisers into third place on the ladder, with Head's return to form viewed as a significant boost to their campaign. His attacking approach against Mumbai's bowling, including spells from Jasprit Bumrah, drew strong reaction from supporters.

Elsewhere, Steve Smith and Peter Siddle's side has been eliminated from the Pakistan T20 league after a loss to a team featuring Marnus Labuschagne and Glenn Maxwell. The Hyderabad Kingsmen chased 159 with eight wickets in hand to advance to the semi-finals, continuing a turnaround after a slow start to the tournament.
