Carlos Alcaraz is prioritising recovery over a rushed return as a wrist injury puts his French Open participation in doubt.
Carlos Alcaraz is facing a race against time to be fit for the French Open after a wrist injury forced him to withdraw from recent tournaments.
The world number two pulled out of the Barcelona Open following discomfort in his right wrist during his opening match and has also withdrawn from the Madrid Open.
Alcaraz admitted the issue is more serious than initially expected, with further tests scheduled to determine the extent of the injury.
He stressed the importance of patience, indicating he would rather delay his return than risk aggravating the problem and causing long-term damage.
The French Open, which runs from 24 May to 6 June, is now in doubt for the Spaniard.
Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner has regained the world number one ranking after defeating Alcaraz in the Monte Carlo Masters final, and the Spaniard could lose further ground during his absence.
Despite the setback, Alcaraz remains focused on long-term recovery and maintaining his career trajectory.
