Wests Tigers prospect Latu Fainu is prepared to adapt his role as he looks to secure his long-term future at the NRL club.
The 20-year-old arrived from Manly in 2024 as a highly rated halfback option, but injuries and team changes have reshaped his path.
After undergoing off-season shoulder surgery, Fainu made his return from the bench in last week's upset win over the Warriors.
He has again been named on the interchange by coach Benji Marshall for the Easter Monday clash against Parramatta, with the halves pairing of Adam Doueihi and Jock Madden retained following their strong performance.
With co-captain Jarome Luai also expected back from injury later this month, competition for spots in the halves has intensified, leaving Fainu facing limited opportunities in his preferred position.
The situation has prompted discussion around his future, particularly with the young playmaker able to negotiate with rival clubs from November 1 if he remains unsigned beyond this season.
However, Fainu has made it clear he is willing to shift positions to remain at the Tigers alongside brothers Samuela and Sione, who are both established members of the side.
He said he was open to playing wherever required, emphasising his commitment to the club and his desire to repay the faith shown in him by Marshall.
Fainu was used through the middle upon his return against the Warriors and is expected to fill a similar role again, potentially transitioning into a lock forward position.
He acknowledged that a permanent move to the forwards would require further physical development, noting the need to find the right balance in his weight and conditioning to handle the demands of the role.
Fainu has also spoken about the challenges he has faced early in his career, revealing he had considered stepping away from the game amid injury setbacks and mounting pressure.
He credited the support of his coach and teammates for helping him regain confidence, adding that he is determined to repay that trust and make the most of every opportunity, regardless of position.
