Chris Scholtz reviews Sydney trials at Rosehill on April 17 and Hawkesbury on April 20.
ROSEHILL April 17
Insiude Grass; Good 4
12 Heats – 4 x 1030m (3 Open; 1 Maiden); 8 x 900m (2 Open; 3 2YO; 1 3YO; 2 Maiden)
Good conditions for a session that sets several smart performers on their way to Brisbane.
ERNAUX (Chris Waller): Expect a sharp form reversal from this I Am Invincible filly after her poor showing in the G2 PJ Bell when second up. Travelled easily off the leader FIREPOP in her 900m open trial (54.99; 34.32) and had no trouble getting the upper hand over the last 200m under a cold ride from James McDonald.
FIRE STAR (Peter Snowden): Could be a good prospect for the Brisbane carnival after a strong second in his first trial since January. The smart SEMILLION did the work in the lead in their 900m heat (54.44; 34.04) while Fire Star travelled easily in the trail and was never asked for a serious effort as they sprinted home in good time over the last 400m.
HORIZONS (Richard & Will Freedman): Set for a big first-up performance after two sharp trial wins six weeks apart. Easily opened up a big lead in the first 600m of his 1050m open heat (63.39; 34.85) and was never troubled to coast home by almost six lengths from the smart KING OF ROSEAU doing his best work late.
OH DIAMOND LIL (David Pfieffer): One of Sydney's most genuine mares is back on track after an interruption to her training after a trial win in February forced her to miss the autumn carnival. She's ready to go again after a classy win in the fastest 1030m heat (62.32; 34.53), doing it easily in the lead from start to finish with good response when given a little squeeze over the last 200m.
STARDUST MEMORIES (Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott): A sharp free running 900m heat win by this unraced Zoustar filly in fast time (53.87; 34.14) is typical of this stable when they have one ready for a midweek maiden. She's now had four trials and will not be lacking fitness when placed over a short course.
Heat winners to make a good impression included MAN OF WORTH (64.15; 35.54) and KRASINA (62.40; 35.58) in their 1050m trials and the unraced 2YO UNCERTAIN GLORY (54.99; 34.32) and the maiden CALL ME ZEUS (55.01; 34.71) in their 900m trials.
Numerous runners turned in eye catching efforts with soft trials that leaves them open to ample improvement. They included THE INSTRUCTOR, ROTAGILLA, BELLA CAVALLO, SIR DINADAN, DONATELLO and MISS SUPERNOVA.
