Josh Tongue has extended his stay at Nottinghamshire after playing a key role in their title-winning season.
Josh Tongue has committed his future to Nottinghamshire after an impressive run of form since joining from Worcestershire in 2024.
The 28-year-old fast bowler has taken 33 wickets in seven first-class matches for Nottinghamshire at an average of 22.87. Six of those appearances came early last summer, when he claimed 31 wickets including three five-wicket hauls as Notts secured their first County Championship title since 2010.
So far this season, Tongue has made one appearance, taking two wickets in Nottinghamshire's emphatic 192-run victory over Glamorgan.
Speaking after signing his new deal, Tongue expressed his enthusiasm for continuing his development at the club, saying he feels his game has improved significantly in recent years and that he is excited about what lies ahead.
Tongue made his Test debut for England against Ireland at Lord's in 2023, and has since taken 49 wickets in nine matches.
He was one of England's standout performers during the Ashes tour of Australia last winter, claiming 18 wickets in three Tests. His performances included a maiden five-wicket haul in the Boxing Day Test at the MCG England's only victory in a 4-1 series defeat.
Head coach Peter Moores welcomed the contract extension, describing it as a significant boost for the club. He highlighted the value of having current international players within the squad and praised Tongue's impact during the previous season, noting that his presence strengthens the entire bowling unit.
