KKR edged Lucknow in a chaotic finish, with Narine and Rinku deciding a rare three-ball Super Over.
Cameron Green is beginning to justify his price tag at Kolkata Knight Riders, delivering another steady allround performance in a dramatic IPL win over Lucknow.
The Australian, who started the season under pressure, has found form with scores of 79, 27 and 34 across his past three innings.
He added to that with 34 and a tidy spell of 1-12 on Sunday, removing Aiden Markram in a tight two-over burst.
Yet his contribution became part of a wider finish that quickly escalated into one of the most chaotic endings of the season.
Chasing 156, Lucknow required 17 from the final over and were aided by two costly no-balls from Kartik Tyagi.
Veteran quick Mohammed Shami, better known for his red-ball exploits, emerged as an unlikely finisher, striking a six off the last ball to force a Super Over.
The late twist overshadowed Rinku Singh's earlier innings, the left-hander making an unbeaten 83 from 51 balls, including four consecutive sixes, to anchor Kolkata's total.
With the match reset, Kolkata turned to experienced spinner Sunil Narine, who delivered a decisive Super Over. He bowled Nicholas Pooran with the first ball and dismissed Markram soon after, restricting Lucknow to 1-2 in just three deliveries.
Narine later indicated the team had backed him to take responsibility for the Super Over, making the decision straightforward.
That left a simple task for Kolkata's batters, and Rinku finished the job immediately, striking a boundary from the first ball to seal victory. The result lifts Kolkata to eighth place, while Lucknow slipped to the bottom after a fifth straight defeat.
Lucknow captain Rishabh Pant acknowledged the mounting pressure on his side and suggested a break may help reset their campaign. Australian T20 skipper Mitch Marsh also endured a quiet outing, dismissed for two.
