Josh Hazlewood’s four-wicket haul powered Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a dominant win as Virat Kohli set a new IPL record.
Josh Hazlewood produced a decisive spell to dismantle Delhi Capitals, finishing with 4-12 from 3.3 overs as Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured a nine-wicket win in the IPL.
The Australian quick equalled his best T20 figures as Delhi were bowled out for just 75, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar providing strong support through figures of 3-5.
The pair dominated with the new ball, leaving the Capitals struggling at 6-8 before a brief resistance.
Abishek Porel, who made 30, and David Miller, who added 19, combined to steady the innings and avoid what would have been the lowest total in IPL history.
Even so, it marked Delhi's lowest score since 2017, when the franchise competed as the Daredevils.
Hazlewood's performance continues a strong return from injury. He had missed recent international commitments, including the Ashes and the T20 World Cup, but has quickly regained rhythm since rejoining the IPL two weeks ago.
The chase was swift. Virat Kohli anchored the innings with 29 not out and became the first player to surpass 9,000 IPL runs, extending his lead as the competition's most prolific scorer.
Devdutt Padikkal remained unbeaten alongside him as Bengaluru reached the target in just 6.6 overs.
Padikkal credited the opening bowlers for setting up the result, noting their consistency created constant chances in the slips, an unusual scenario in T20 cricket.
Hazlewood, who was named player of the match, acknowledged the conditions had favoured the bowlers after several high-scoring games earlier in the tournament.
He also indicated he would have welcomed the chance to complete his full allocation of overs before the chase was wrapped up.
