Simon Helmot has stepped down as Melbourne Renegades coach, ending a five year tenure that included the club's first Women's Big Bash League title.

Helmot, who took charge in 2021, leaves with the support of the Melbourne Renegades as he pursues a new opportunity.

He is currently working in the IPL as an assistant coach at Sunrisers Hyderabad under Daniel Vettori, alongside captain Pat Cummins.

Renegades general manager James Rosengarten acknowledged Helmot's impact, noting his influence extended beyond results to the broader club environment and Victorian cricket community.

Helmot made an immediate impression after taking over, guiding the Renegades to a second-place finish in his first season.

The defining moment of his tenure came in 2024, when he and captain Sophie Molineux led the side to their maiden WBBL title, defeating the Brisbane Heat in the final.

His departure adds to a growing list of coaching vacancies across Australia's domestic T20 competitions.

The Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder are both yet to appoint head coaches for their men's programs.

Long-time NSW mentor Greg Shipperd recently left his role despite leading the Sixers to this season's BBL final and securing a One Day Cup title with the Blues. Meanwhile, the Thunder have parted ways with Trevor Bayliss after five seasons in charge.

Brad Haddin has since been appointed to oversee NSW's One-Day Cup and Sheffield Shield teams, though he will not take on a BBL coaching role.

Potential candidates for the Sixers position include former Australia women's coach Matthew Mott and allrounder James Hopes.

For the Thunder, Shane Watson and Dan Christian are among those linked.

Helmot's exit marks another shift in Australia's T20 coaching landscape, with multiple clubs now entering a period of transition ahead of the next season.
