One win at Old Trafford changes little, says Slot

Arne Slot says Liverpool still have plenty to prove, regardless of what happens against Manchester United, insisting one high-profile result will not define either his season or the progress of his team.

Liverpool head to Old Trafford on Sunday on the back of three straight league wins, a run that has revived momentum after a difficult stretch in which they won only twice in eight matches from early March. Another victory would lift the Reds above United into third place and strengthen their push for Champions League qualification.

It would also give Slot a notable early milestone, making him the first Liverpool manager to win his opening two away league matches at Manchester United.

Yet the Dutchman has played down the significance of the fixture as a measuring stick. He said Liverpool are judged every three days, whether they face United, Fulham or Crystal Palace, and accepted that constant scrutiny comes with managing a club of Liverpool's size.

Slot also brushed aside discussion around criticism of his own performance, saying his focus remains on assessing his players, their work rate and how well they execute tactical plans, rather than on outside opinion.

Liverpool's recent results have improved, but Slot believes performances still fall short of the standard his side can reach. He acknowledged the team had shown a higher level earlier in the campaign and suggested recent wins had come with a slice of fortune that had often been missing in tougher moments this season.

Injuries have also played a major role. Slot described the number of unavailable players as extreme, noting that a healthier squad would make it easier for Liverpool to rediscover their best football.

For now, results are doing the heavy lifting. Liverpool have scored freely at Old Trafford in recent seasons, netting 20 goals across their last seven visits in all competitions, and another positive afternoon would edge them closer to Europe's top table.

But Slot's message is clear, one win, even against their fiercest rivals, changes very little on its own. In football, the next judgement is never far away.
