Alex Johnston has capped a remarkable period on and off the field, announcing his engagement to long time partner Taryn Carson just weeks after breaking the NRL's all time try scoring record.

The South Sydney winger shared the news via social media, revealing a family centred proposal that included the couple's three children. Johnston used a personalised banner featuring their kids to pop the question, marking a milestone in a relationship that has spanned more than a decade.

Carson acknowledged the length of their journey together in a light hearted caption accompanying the announcement, which quickly drew widespread attention across the rugby league community.

Teammates and fellow players were quick to respond, with Cameron Murray, Latrell Mitchell, Cody Walker and Junior Tatola among those to congratulate Johnston.

Former teammate Damien Cook also shared his support, while NRLW players Tiana Penitani Gray and Millie Boyle were among a broader group of figures to acknowledge the news.

The engagement continues a memorable stretch for Johnston, who made history earlier this season at Allianz Stadium by surpassing Ken Irvine's long standing try scoring record.

Johnston's double in that match took him beyond Irvine's mark of 212 tries, a record that had stood for more than five decades. He has since extended his tally to 215 tries from 247 appearances, further cementing his place among the game's great finishers.

The 31 year old will look to add to that total when South Sydney face the Canberra Raiders in Perth, with the Rabbitohs aiming to maintain their strong start to the season.
