Contract movement across the NRL has taken shape, with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs securing fullback Connor Tracey on a new deal and shifting the market for rival targets.

Tracey's two-year extension is expected to end the Bulldogs' interest in Jahream Bula, increasing the likelihood the young Wests Tigers fullback remains at the club, at least in the short term.

Bula holds a mutual option for 2027, and the reduced competition for his signature strengthens the Tigers' position.

Attention has instead turned to Scott Drinkwater, who has been granted permission to negotiate with rival clubs despite being contracted to the North Queensland Cowboys until 2027.

The St George Illawarra Dragons have emerged as a leading contender, reportedly tabling a three-year offer worth about $3 million.

Drinkwater's agent, Gavin Orr, confirmed discussions were underway and indicated formal talks would continue next week, with the player expected to weigh the proposal carefully.

The Dragons are seeking a long-term fullback solution amid concerns over Clint Gutherson's future in the role, with a positional shift considered likely.

Coaching uncertainty at the Dragons may also factor into negotiations, with Shane Flanagan under pressure and his long-term position unclear.

Reports suggest Gutherson has supported the club's pursuit of Drinkwater as part of a broader reshaping of the spine.

Rival interest remains, with the Cronulla Sharks and Perth Bears linked, though both are reportedly reluctant to match an offer exceeding $1 million per season.

Meanwhile, Tracey's form has underpinned the Bulldogs' decision. He has averaged 202 running metres per game this season, second only to reigning Dally M Medallist James Tedesco.

Tracey acknowledged the role of coach Cameron Ciraldo and staff in his development, adding that he sees long-term potential in the club's direction.
