Former top-30 player Camila Giorgi has confirmed plans to return to professional tennis in 2027, drawing a positive response from fans and commentators.

The Italian stepped away from the sport in 2024 after a career that included four WTA singles titles and a peak ranking of world No.26. Since retiring, the 34-year old has pursued modelling and is now expecting her first child.

During a recent social media Q&A, Giorgi repeatedly stated her intention to resume her career in 2027, offering a clear timeline for her comeback.

Giorgi's return would follow a career highlighted by strong performances at major tournaments.

Her best grand slam result came at Wimbledon in 2018, where she reached the quarter finals, while she also made the fourth round at the US Open in 2013 and the French Open in 2022.

She played her final grand slam match at the Australian Open in 2024 before stepping away later that season following a loss to Iga Swiatek in Miami.

One of her standout seasons came in 2021, when she reached the Olympic quarter-finals in Tokyo and secured the biggest title of her career at the Canadian Open.

That run included victories over several top-25 opponents, underlining her ability to compete at the highest level.

Giorgi had previously suggested she was open to a return, noting that time away from the tour had allowed her to experience life outside the demands of elite sport.

Her announcement has been welcomed across the tennis community, with many noting her popularity and distinctive playing style. Giorgi maintains a strong following online, reflecting her enduring appeal despite time away from competition.
