Jay Ford claimed the Sydney apprentice jockey title in 2003/04 after taking up riding in 2001.
Apprenticed to Keith Dryden at Canberra and then Kim Waugh, Jay Ford rose to fame when becoming the regular rider of champion sprinter Takeover Target with the pair claiming their first Group 1 in the 2004 Salinger Stakes.
Ford claimed an impressive 20 wins on the famous galloper which included Group 1 victories across five Australian states as well as the United Kingdom, Singapore and Japan.
