With a clean sweep of the three G1s Hong Kong is very happy.
For the Sprint that was almost guaranteed, for the Mile that was pleasing and for the Cup a huge delight.
What more can you say about Ka Ying Rising? He lowered the track record again – although that was not a pre-race intention- in winning his 20th successive race by 4 ½ lengths over Satono Reve, who is no slouch! Raging Blizzard ran a blinder under Brenton Avdulla to finish third. We are fortunate to be living in times when we ca watch him either live or electronically.
The Mile was certainly competitive even without the favourite Jantar Mantar having an "off' day and finished up in a great struggle between My Wish and Cap Ferrat who seemed to regain his top form under Craig Williams, with a nose being the final verdict. And Docklands who is wending his way from Europe to Australia made his stop in Hong Kong worthwhile with a third place.
Then The Cup – only 8 runners as Romantic Warrior and Masquerade Ball may have put some of them off and the 2000m is a tricky race, but Romantic Warrior, the "old warrior" was not to be denied his fourth successive win. Perhaps in retrospect Lemaire on Masquerade Ball could have moved a bit further forward before the turn as he had to come from the very back of the field and ran out of ground. And Sosie whom we claimed had been somewhat overlooked by the media ran an excellent third.
