The All Aged Stakes brings together intertwining form lines for the final open age Group One of the Sydney Autumn.
It's a case of sprinters against milers in the All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday and as the final open age Group One of the Sydney Autumn, we see quite a few different form lines meet.
The best lead up has historically been the T J Smith Stakes (1200m), one of the premier sprints in the country, with 12 All Aged winners coming through the T J, beating the market expectations.
Last year's All Aged winner Jimmysstar steps back out to 1400m having only gotten warm very late in the T J this year when fifth. He's been well off his best in two runs this campaign but has always hinted at being a better horse over a bit further and gets that now.
He will need to improve and the early price as a 2/1 favourite is certainly forecasting him back to near that level but he should be putting his best foot forward on Saturday.
The most intriguing runner in the race is top mare Fangirl, who has missed the majority of the Autumn after surgery to remove a bone chip.
She excels on dry ground between 1400m-1600m, especially at Randwick, and as the fresh horse on the scene she's certainly good enough with the blistering turn of foot that she has.
Jimmysstar and Fangirl, along with Angel Capital and to some extent Giga Kick, who occupy the first four spots in the market, don't possess much early speed and that could be a bit tricky and leave the door open for a leader to try and pinch it.
Three-year-old colt Beiwacht found the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) a bit hot last time behind Autumn Glow, but he led at a strong tempo and fared better than anything else near the speed.
1400m on dry ground produced his big, fast Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) win and if the others are too worried about timing their runs, Beiwacht might've slipped away.
Beiwacht and possibly Angel Capital make the most appeal, especially if the latter draws well and can settle in front of Jimmysstar and Fangirl. He's been crying out for 1400m and can run a new peak on Saturday.
