Nelly Korda returned to world number one in emphatic fashion, securing a five-shot victory at the Chevron Championship to claim her third major title.

The 27-year-old American finished on 18 under par at Houston's Memorial Park, comfortably clear of Patty Tavatanakit and Ruoning Yin, who shared second at 13 under.

Victory gives Korda her second Chevron crown in three seasons and lifts her back above Jeeno Thitikul at the top of the world rankings after the Thai star missed the cut.

Korda had threatened the tournament record after equalling the event's 54-hole scoring mark on Saturday, but a steady final round of 70 left her two shots short of the 20 under benchmark. Even so, with a healthy lead to protect, the final day became more about composure than chasing history.

She made a bright start with birdies on two of her opening three holes, briefly hinting at a record-breaking finish. Two bogeys on the back nine slowed that charge, but by then Korda remained firmly in control, never seriously allowing the field back into contention.

After opening rounds of 65 and 65, she closed with back-to-back rounds of 70 over the weekend to complete a polished campaign from start to finish.

Speaking afterwards, Korda acknowledged the mental challenge of protecting a sizeable lead over the closing rounds, describing it as one of the tougher tests of her career. She also credited her family, support team and caddie for helping her get over the line.

The title adds to her previous major wins at the Chevron Championship and the Women's PGA Championship in 2021, taking her major tally to three.

Tavatanakit began the final round five shots behind but was unable to apply sustained pressure, closing with a two under 70 as Korda calmly completed the job.
