Beau Mertens is the son of Group 1 winning jockey Peter Mertens and began his career in 2014.
Taking just seven rides to claim his first winner at Echuca, Merterns put in plenty of hard toil prior to that working for the Mick Kent stable for a year before being offered an apprenticeship.
Mertens first black type success came aboard Bassett in the Abell Stakes at Moonee Valley also going on to win the Listed Hareeba Stakes at Mornington.
